VAT is a tax that's charged on most goods and services that VAT-registered businesses provide in the UK. It's also charged on goods and some services that are imported from countries outside the European Union. VAT is charged when a VAT-registered business sells to either another business or to a non-business customer.
Whether or not you register for VAT depends on your turnover, or you can choose to voluntarily register for VAT. Taking in consideration the principles of VAT, the benefit to business registering for VAT is that you get to claim back any VAT the business takes in, in the form of purchases. This is dependent on whether the sales (OUT) VAT is less than the purchase VAT (IN)
Chambers Bookkeeping offers advice and assistance about VAT registration, helping you review the effects on your business of registering for VAT and, if necessary, handle the VAT registration paperwork.
Once your business is registered for VAT, or if you are already VAT registered, you’ll be assigned an account manager who will calculate the quarterly VAT that is due for your company and complete your VAT returns. All you have to do is send us the information needed to complete the returns, and then make the required payment to HM Revenue and Customs, or alternatively if funds are owed to you by HMRC we will handle your claim for you.
When your VAT return is complete, all your information, including your previous VAT returns, will be stored in your secure personal file. A copy of all information will be sent to you for your records.
